A brief moment of sunshine before it started to snow again

The lone ash tree on our front yard

Another quick oil sketch for today before the sunlight varnished from our front yard.

Home on Balmoral Bay

Another oil sketch from across the street  of our house on Balmoral Bay. There on the front yard the  remaining patch of the snow is the only memory from the long cold winter.

Back alley on Balmoral Bay on this sunny spring morning

Finally snow is almost out of the sight and spring is here to stay.

St Mathews Anglican Church of Boissevain

Stopped by this Anglican church in the town of Boissevian on our way back to Brandon to finish my third painting for today.

My first visit to Adam Lake in Turtle Mountain

This is my first visit to Adam lake. We could not find a trail right to the edge of the lake. Instead, we stopped at this wood with oaks and aspens which somehow touched me so much by their dignified look. There was absolute silence around me while I was lost in the joy of painting at this quiet spot.

From the reservoir of Boissevain Manitoba on a sunny but windy spring morning

Standing on the bank of the reservoir in Boissevian on this bright sunny morning, I could sense the presence  of spring so tangible in the  bright and dazzling sunshine , in the  blowing wind,  in the almost submerged ice floats and in the flapping sound of the bird wings.

Feel of spring

There is not much of a snow left  in our backyard, and it is quite warm outside and I can feel spring in the air.

In the last glow

Full moon in the sky

Painting outside at 8:30 pm in the evening when the full moon appeared in the sky was a very exciting moment.

Sign of spring

Patches of grass started to reveal under the blanket of snow in the warm afternoon sun.

Facing the warm late afternoon sunshine

Another quick oil sketch from the same window late in the afternoon.

Sign of spring coming slowly

The flowerbed started to reveal itself from the deep cover of  the snow in our backyard.

Wet after an early morning snow fall

It snowed early in the morning leaving a shimmering wet sheen on the street glistening in the brief appearance of the sun. A quick oil sketch looking out of the window at 10 a.m.

A view of the back alley on Balmoral Bay

Painted this view late in the afternoon on Balmoral Bay from the back alley behind our shed.
Another quick oil sketch of the lone poplar tree in the back alley  where the snow started to melt revealing patches of grass.

A reluctant spring?

Despite the sight of accumulated snow remaining on our front yard at this time of the year, I somehow can feel the presence of spring already in the intense morning sunshine, in the triumphant springing back  of the junipers from the deep snow , and in  the spring like lightness of  her steps of a young lady passing by with her dog this morning on Balmoral Bay when I looked out of our window painting and listening to CBC Radio 2.

A tree with spirit

Each day as I pass this tree on John's front yard on my way to and from work, I would have the urge to paint it. Today before the sunset, I rushed through with the painting hoping to capture the spirit embodied in the tree.

Painting in the snow in spring

Snow started to fall heavily throwing everything in sight  into oblivion soon after I started this painting at Clear Lake. It was a trilling experience nevertheless to paint braving such element at this time of the year!

Visiting Riding Mountain National Park on a snowy morning

The sun came out only briefly before an  overcast  took over the sky at the Riding Mountain National Park. However it still energized and excited  me to paint on location there emerging myself into the outdoor  serenity.

A glimpse over the hedges on a sunny afternoon

Painting outdoor in our backyard when the warm sunlight was beating down on your back is a delightful moment of the day.

A flick of light on a wet snowy evening

A quick oil sketching looking out of the window on a dark ,cold,  wet and snowy evening.

The path I take every day on my way to work

A path I take every day on my way to walk. Still flanked with big bank of snow at this time of the year. So cold when I painted this view that my fingers got  numb with biting cold wind  which pushed my easel  so hard and almost toppled it over.

With spring in her steps

Another quick oil sketch of a view on Balmoral Bay in the afternoon with a little girl walking into my view with spring in her quick light steps.

Across the street

After a break, I carried on with my third painting for the day. It was so delightful to paint in the warm sunshine at noon !

Looking across the street from the top of the snow bank

Another quick oil sketch from the top of the snow bank in the morning.

Facing the early morning sunshine

Climbed unto the top of the snow bank to paint this view of Maureen's house early in the morning when the intense morning sunlight was on Maureen's house.

Dark and snowy evening

A glimpse out of the window into the snow covered backyard with more snow coming on its way!

Painting from our back alley with three feet of snow under my feet

It is really not usual to paint with three feet of snow under my feet at this time of the year ! However the elevated position allows me to view this familiar view with a unique perspective.

Frigid sunny afternoon

It was still very cold today despite its sunny look this afternoon. A quick oil sketch before the sun light was gone.

Behind the snow bank

Cold , snowy and cloudy it is today! Stepping outside , am greeted by a cold gust of wind. Painted this view from our door step today.

Still a winter night

The street light was back on towards evening. Snow remained thick and deep. Everything outside still suggests a dark and cold winter.

A glimpse of Co-Op Gas station on 6th Street of Brandon

It is rather of a bleak view looking out of a window from a second floor of an apartment. However the two bare trees with dead leaves pointing tenaciously into the sky seems to have made the view a bit more interesting of   the distant Co-Op Gas station on the 6th street in Brandon.

Remain in the grip of winter

It started to snow in the afternoon dashing any illusion of tangible sign of spring. This is what it looks like around 4 p.m this afternoon looking out of our window.

Thursday, April 4, 2013

Looking west on Balmoral Bay

Though snow still flanked both side of the street,  the  ambient light in the evening shows every sign of the turn of the season. Painted this view at 6 p.m on Balmoral Bay.

Sign of spring

Snow started to melt away in the warm sunlight in the afternoon. Standing on  the front door step , breathing in  the  moisture loaded fresh air, and catching a glimpse of a small patch of grass , I could finally feel the presence of spring.
